Milford Sound
Mitre Peak and Milford Sound
The extreme glacial landscapes of Fiordland, are exemplified by the stunning beauty of Milford Sound. None of these photos do it any justice and it is impossible to get any sense of the real scale of landscape without standing there and looking up at it yourself. Just to give you some idea... Mitre Peak (in the centre of the above photo) rises almost vertically to a summit 1692m (5551ft) above sea level.
It is not really suprising that Milford Sound is one of New Zealand's most popular tourist destinations when you have scenery like this...
Seals basking on the rocks are a relatively common sight along the sound...

...and a few Bottlenose Dolphins were bow-chasing one of the other tourist boats.
